Remake of The Mole Agent (2020)
Story
Charles, a retired man, gets a new lease on life when he answers a private detective’s ad and becomes a mole in an undercover investigation at a nursing home. Michael Schur was inspired to create “A Man On the Inside” after watching the Chilean documentary “The Mole Agent.” He says, “The documentary “The Mole Agent” is powerful because it makes people feel something remarkably similar across all ages, ethnicities, and genders, and I would describe that feeling in a very reductive way, like, ‘I need to call my mom.’ In our show, we try to do something similar with the tone: basically, does our show contribute to that feeling of making us want to call our moms?
All of the characters are extremely lovable and very relatable to someone in your life
To be honest, I admit that at first I wasn’t really sure the show would be something I would be interested in at all, but somehow, it managed to draw me in. Before you know it, you find yourself so involved that you just have to know who did it.
My favorite quote from the show is “Anything great in your life, looking back on it, feels like a miracle” Very poetic because it resonates with all of us
It’s also a gentle reminder that we’re all here trying to do the same thing, to live and enjoy life, so we might as well do our best to understand each other and, above all, be kind to each other. I also admit that it was a little strange to see Ted Danson in that role, especially when you’re used to him as the Cheers character “Sam”; but very early on, “Charles” tugs at the heartstrings without leaving any sad memories of “Sam.” A bittersweet but tender reminder that Father Time doesn’t play favorites.
It’s a nice change of pace, that leaves no guilt for enjoying another “crime” show
I hope you see it and that you recognize and identify with the daily challenges that some people in our society, in our lives, face every day.
